about vruz
Greetings, Earthling. You have arrived at the blog of Horacio López, also known as vruz.
Key data: Entrepreneur, programmer, IT guy, sysadmin, systems engineer, writer, painter, groklawer, free software and open source advocate, musician, filmmaker, web connoisseur, tumblelogger, videogame designer, kalio collectiver, arsgames/playlab fellower, uruguayan.
I run Playmatik (a digital media studio) and Joybricks (a videogames startup).
A return to music and painting is scheduled for 2010, so I will update strikethroughs accordingly.
Here’s a photo I took I’m proud of. I’m not a real photographer like my photographer friends are, but you can see a surrealistic self-portrait of me here.
Tumblelogs are expressionistic short form blogs, like “obstsalat” made up of from bits of content found on the web. My friend Christian introduced me to tumblelogs back in 2005 when he created the concept.
Later Fred invited me to join Tumblr, around the time he started his own socially-enabled tumblelog fredwilson.vc. That was when I really got the gist of it. I was like ‘duh’ when he first reblogged a Coltrane video from me as an introduction for me to the Tumblr community. I had no idea what that meant then. Things have changed a lot in very few years.
Since then I’ve kept posting regularly to my opinionated tumblelog entitled “united colours of vruz” where I talk about art and politics, so you may not want to go there.
I have collaborated with friends in group effort tumblelogs like the überpopular Comically Vintage, and created some other obscure ones of my own.
There’s also the Joybricks tumblelog, a videogame design exploratorium which I co-edit with Kalio’s own @cigumo.
And now back to blogging proper here at ‘Khipus‘.
I’m not a “social media” type of guy, but I think technology can be put to good use to serve humans. Despite that, for some reason some guys who are big on “social media” and “web 2.0″ matters have somehow had nice things to say about my worldview. They may have changed their opinion on that since then.
